How to get to Cozumel

Cozumel International Airport is located on Avenue 65th and Airport Boulevard, less than 5 minutes by car from downtown.

There are direct flights from Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, Miami, Denver, Chicago, Newark, Minneapolis, Montreal, Toronto and Mexico city, just to mention some.

For a better service, there´s transportation from the airport to all the hotels, run by a private company,
they only use shared vans. There is no private taxis service.

If you prefer so, you can also rent a car at the airport; they will provide you with a printed map
so you get familiar with the area. Driving in Cozumel is pretty simple.

we inform you that they are not part of the hotelier staff of the island.

From Cancun

If you are arriving at Cancun International Airport, there´s two options to get to Cozumel:

  • MayAir: 5 daily flights from Cancún to Cozumel, every two hours, 15 minute’s flight. MayAir also offers round flights from the southwest end of Mexico: Veracruz via Cancun, Merida, and Villahermosa (
  • Ground transportation: by bus from Playa del Carmen (they leave every 30 minutes from the airport to Playa del Carmen), by shared van, or private taxi.
  • There are also modern buses called ADO to Playa del Carmen if you prefer so. They are about $12 dollars per journey, and it takes 45 minutes to get there.
  • In Playa del Carmen there´s also an option to take the ferry, located only two blocks away from the bus station.

With its new fleet of high speed boats, fixed schedule, and a great service, Ultramar and Mexico Waterjets are the two companies which in only 35 minutes take you to Cozumel. Timetable from 6 AM to 11 PM.

You can book your tickets in advance or buy them directly there. Boats are huge so you don´t have to worry about availability, you´ll always find.

Price is under $25 dollars round trip per person.

During the journey you can watch television with useful ads for reference on your stay in Cozumel, but we encourage you to go on deck and enjoy the view.

If you are traveling by car, you must take the ferry from Punta Calica Venado Resort, located 15 minutes away from Playa del Carmen (on the way to Tulum).

4 ships leave daily; it takes about an hour and a half to reach Cozumel.

The Taxi Union, both from the airport and from the harbor, is pretty accessible and safe. The rate is charged upon number of people and distance to cover.

There are counters at the airport for buying tickets, just when you exit Customs; on the harbor of the ferries, taxis are located just in front of the exit.
